Epson Scan 2 Professional Mode Not Working

The option for Professional Mode might not be displayed, could appear greyed out, or selecting it might not yield any response from the Scan 2 application. An update to the app or the device’s OS is reported to trigger the issue.

How to Make Professional Mode Work on Epson Scan 2

We will try to make Professional Mode work on Epson Scan 2 by using different techniques, and if all else fails, reinstalling the utility will be the last option.

1. Change the Mode of Epson Scan 2

A malfunction in the mode selection of the Scan 2 app might trigger the Professional Mode issue. This can be solved by changing the mode of the Scan 2 app and reverting it to the Professional Mode.

  1. Launch the Epson Scan 2 and open the Mode dropdown.
Change Scan Mode of Epson Scan 2
Change the Scan Mode of Epson Scan 2
  2. Select another mode (except the Professional Mode) and complete a scan.
  3. Switch to the Professional Mode and verify if it is operating correctly.

2. Launch the Epson Scan 2 Utility as Admin

If the Professional Mode needs access to a protected system resource but the Scan 2 utility does not have the required privileges, you will not be able to use the required mode. To solve this, launch the Epson Scan 2 application as an administrator.

  1. Right-click on the Epson Scan 2 and select Run as Administrator. You can find the utility in the following location on an X64 PC:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\epson\Epson Scan 2\Core
Launch Epson Scan 2 as an Administrator
Launch Epson Scan 2 as an Administrator
  2. In the UAC prompt, click Yes and confirm if the Professional Mode is operating.

3. Reboot Your Device and Scanner

A malfunction in the input modules of the system will not let you use Professional Mode in Epson Scan 2. Here, rebooting your device and scanner will do the trick.

  1. Exit the Epson Scan 2 utility and switch off the scanner.
  2. Unplug its USB cable from the system and power off your system.

4. Reset the Epson Scan 2 to the Defaults

You will not be able to use Professional Mode on the Epson Scan 2 if it has a conflicting configuration enabled. Additionally, if the files holding the utility’s configurations are damaged, it will also result in the issue at hand. In such a scenario, resetting the Epson Scan 2 utility to its default settings will solve the problem.

  1. Navigate to the following path:
    64-bit

    C:\Program Files (x86)\epson\Epson Scan 2\Utility

    32-bit

    C:\Program Files\epson\Epson Scan 2\Utility
  2. Launch Epson Scan Maintenance Utility and set the operation dropdown to Reset Epson Scan/Epson Scan 2.

Reset Epson Scan 2 to its Default Settings
  3. Click on the Start button and once done, see if the problem is solved.
  4. If not, go to the Configuration tab of the Epson Scan 2 and click on Reset to Defaults.
  5. Restart the system and verify if the issue is resolved.

5. Update the Device’s OS and Epson Scan 2

You will not be able to use the Professional Mode on Epson Scan 2 if the device’s OS or the application itself is outdated. This will cause incompatibility between the device and the Epson app. To fix this, update the device’s OS and Epson Scan 2.

Update the Device’s OS

To update Windows:

  1. Right-click on Windows and go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. In the right pane, click on Check for Updates and install all the available updates.
    Check for Windows Updates
    Check for Windows Updates
  3. Restart the system and launch Epson Scan 2. Verify if the Professional Mode is working.

Update the Epson Scan 2

  1. Launch a web browser and navigate to the Epson website.
  2. Go to Support > Scanners > your scanner model > Drivers > Scanner Driver and Epson Scan 2 Utility.
    Download Epson Scan 2
    Download Epson Scan 2
  3. Download it and install it (without uninstalling the current installation).
  4. Launch it and see if the problem is solved.
  5. If not, download Scan Patch for User Interface for your scanner from the Epson website and install it.
  6. Launch Epson Scan 2 and verify if the issue is resolved.

6. Delete the Scanner from Printers and Scanners

If the scanner configurations in the system’s settings are not valid, the settings retrieved by the Scan 2 utility will fail to display the Professional Mode or make it work. This can be fixed by deleting the scanner from Printers and Scanners and re-adding it.

  1. Right-click on Windows and go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners.
Open Printers and Scanners in Windows Settings
Open Printers and Scanners in Windows Settings
  2. Select the Epson scanner and click on Remove.
  3. Confirm to remove the scanner and restart the system.
  4. Add the scanner back to the system, and verify if the Professional Mode is working correctly.

7. Reinstall the Epson Scan 2 Application

You will not be able to use Professional Mode on the Epson Scan 2 if the essential modules of the application are damaged and fail to execute correctly. Here, reinstalling the Epson Scan 2 application will solve the problem.

To do so on a Windows PC:

  1. Disconnect the Epson scanner from the PC and delete the scanner from the Printers and Scanners (discussed earlier).
  2. Right-click Windows and select Apps & Features.
  3. Expand the Epson Scan 2 application and click on Uninstall.
Uninstall Epson Scan 2 on Windows
Uninstall Epson Scan 2 on Windows
  4. Follow the prompts to uninstall the Epson application and restart the device.
  5. Launch a web browser and go to the Epson website.
  6. Navigate to Support > Scanners > your scanner model > Drivers > Scanner Driver and Epson Scan 2 Utility.
  7. Launch the installer as administrator and follow the prompts to complete the process.
Launch the Installer of Epson Scan 2 as Administrator
Launch the Installer of Epson Scan 2 as Administrator
  8. Launch Epson Scan 2 and hopefully, its Professional Mode will be working correctly.

If this does not work, check if you can use Professional Mode on the Epson Scan 2 on another system. If that is not an option, contact Epson Support for further assistance. Till then, you can try another compatible scanning app (e.g., VueScan) with your scanner.

One of the oldest printer errors that are still haunting many modern printers is the PCL XL error. The issue is reported on nearly all major desktop operating systems like Windows, Linux, MAC, etc. Many times, the issue is reported after a driver or OS update, mainly on a shared printer. Usually, the following type of message is shown:

PCL XL Error

You may get a PCL XL error on the printer mainly due to characters in the print data stream that the printer cannot “understand” and these characters are mainly caused by the following:

  • Mismatching Font Between the System and Printer: If a font on the system cannot be properly parsed by the printer, then it may result in the PCL XL error.
  • Interference from Conflicting Applications: If the antivirus of your system or another application (like print management suite) is interfering with the print data stream, making its characters untranslatable by the printer, then the printer may show the PCL XL issue.
  • Outdated or Corrupt Printer Driver: If the printer’s driver is outdated or corrupt, then its incompatibility with other printing modules may produce a print job that cannot be properly rendered on the printer, resulting in the issue at hand.
  • Corrupt User Profile: If the user profile is corrupt, then this corruption may lead to non-parse-able characters in the print task, causing the PCL XL error.

Restart the Print Spooler Service

If the Print Spooler service is stuck in the operation, then it may cause the PCL XL error under discussion. Here, restarting the Print Spooler service may solve the problem.

  1. Click Windows, search for Services, right-click on it, and select Run as Administrator.
    Open Services as Administrator
  2. Now click Yes (if UAC prompt is received) and right-click on the Print Spooler service.
    Restart the Print Spooler Service
  3. Then click on Restart and once restarted, check if the printer’s PCL XL problem is solved.

Perform a Cold Restart

A temporary communication glitch between the system and printer might cause the PCL XL error at hand. Here, performing a cold restart of the system, networking equipment, and problematic printer may solve the problem.

  1. Power off the system, printer, and networking equipment (routers, extenders, etc.).
  2. Now, unplug the power cable of all these devices and wait for 5 minutes.
Unplug Router from the Power Source
  3. Afterward, plug back the devices and power on the router.
  4. Now let its lights stabilize and afterward, boot the system.
  5. Once booted, power on the printer and wait till it is fully powered on.
  6. Now check if the printer is working fine.

If that did not work, check if the printer works fine with another system. If so, then check if the issue is only caused by a particular file. If this is the case, then check if the problematic file can be printed from another system. If not, then check the file for any issues.

Update the Printer’s Drivers to the Latest Build

If the printer’s driver is outdated, it may have become incompatible with the other modules in the process. In such a case, you can fix a PCL XL error by updating the printer’s drivers to the latest build.

  1. Firstly, make sure the system’s Windows and device drivers are updated to the latest build.
  2. Now check if the printer is working fine.
  3. If not, open the OEM’s website in a web browser (like HP.com) and check if an update for the printer driver is available.
  4. If so, then download and install the updated driver (without uninstalling the older one).
  5. Now restart your system and upon restart, check if the printer is clear of the PCL XL error.

Update the Printer’s Firmware to the Latest Build

Incompatibility between the outdated printer’s firmware and other printing modules may cause the PCL XL issue. Here, updating the printer’s firmware to the latest build may solve the problem. A printer’s firmware can be updated by many methods like an app, through a system connected via a USB to the printer, or from the printer itself. For illustration, we will discuss the process for an HP printer.

  1. Firstly, make sure the printer is connected to the Internet (either through ethernet or Wi-Fi).
  2. Now, on the printer’s screen, open Settings and select Preferences.
  3. Then open Tools (or Print Management) and select Web Services (or Printer Update or LaserJet Update).
  4. Now follow the prompts on the printer’s screen to update the printer’s firmware and afterwards, check if the printer is working fine.
    Update the Printer Firmware

Run the OEM Printer Troubleshoot Utility

Many OEMs have released utilities (like Microsoft’s Printer Troubleshooter or HP’s Print and Scan Doctor) to troubleshoot the common problems with a printer and running these utilities may fix the current PCL XL error.

Use the Microsoft Printer Troubleshooter

  1. Right-click Windows and select Settings.
    Open Windows Settings
  2. Now open Update & Security and head to the Troubleshoot tab (in the left pane).
    Open Update & Security

If using the OS printer utility did not work for you, then using the printer’s OEM utility may solve the problem. For illustration, we will discuss the process for the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility. You may follow the instructions as per the printer’s OEM utility.

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the Tools page of HP’s website.
  2. Now download the HP’s Print and Scan Doctor as per the OS.
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor
  3. Then launch the downloaded utility as administrator and select the problematic printer.
  4. Now click on Fix Printing and wait till the result is shown.
Fix Printing by Using the HP Print and Scan Doctor
  5. Afterward, check if the printer is operating fine.

Clean Boot Your System and Disable/Uninstall Conflicting Applications

If an application on your PC (like Papercut or Gugenprint) is interfering with the routine operation of the printing modules of the system, then the printer might show the PCL XL error at hand. Here, clean booting the system and disabling or uninstalling these conflicting applications may solve the problem.

  1. Clean boot your PCs (host and client) and check if the printer is working fine.
  2. If so, then enable back the processes/services/applications one by one that was disabled during the clean boot process to find out the problematic one.
  3. Once found, either you keep it disabled or uninstall it.

The PaperCut Print server is reported to cause the issue. In the case of an Apple machine, the Gugenprint driver is reported to cause the issue. If you have any of these applications on your system, then make sure to check if these are not causing the issue.

Disable PaperCut Print Services

Disable Render Print Jobs on Client Computers

As the print jobs are rendered on the client computers, the printer may fail to properly handle the rendered output by the client, resulting in the PCL XL error at hand. In such a case, disabling the rendering of the print jobs on the client computers may solve the problem.

  1. On the host/server computer, click Windows, type Print Management, right-click on it, and select Run as Administrator.
  2. Now, right-click on the problematic printer (you may have to expand the Print Servers or Deployed Printers option) and select Properties.

  3. Then head to the Sharing tab and uncheck the option of Render Print Jobs on Client Computers.
Uncheck Render Print Jobs on Client Computers
  4. Now apply your changes and afterward, check if the PCL XL error is cleared.

Edit the Font-Related Printer Settings

As the PCL XL error is caused by mismatching characters in the print data stream, these characters can be caused by a font not supported by the printer. In this context, editing the font-related printer settings may solve the problem.

  1. Right-click Windows and open Settings.
  2. Now select Devices and head to the Printers and Scanners tab.
  3. Then, in the right pane, expand the problematic printer and click on Manage.
    Open Manage of the Printer
  4. Now open Printing Preferences and head to its Advanced tab.
  5. Then expand the dropdown of TrueType Font and select Download as Softfont.
Set True Type Font to Download as Softfont
  6. Now apply your changes and check if the PCL XL problem is solved.
  7. If not, again head to the Advanced tab of the printer’s Preferences and set the dropdown of Send True Type as Bitmap to Enabled.
Set True Type as Bitmap to Enabled
  8. Then apply your changes and afterward, check if the PCL XL printing error is cleared.
  9. If that did not work, once again, head to the Advanced tab of the printer’s Preferences and set the dropdown of the Print Data Optimization to Optimize for Text and Vector.
Set Print Data Optimization to Optimize for Text and Vectors
  10. Now apply your changes and check if the printing PCL XL error is cleared.

If the issue persists, check if setting the Send as Image when printing the file solves the problem. If that is not working, check if printing to a file and then printing that file through the printer clears out the issue.

Reset the Printer to the Factory Defaults

The printer may show the PCL XL error due to a misconfiguration of the printer or if the printer’s firmware is corrupt. In such a case, resetting the printer to the factory defaults may solve the problem. The PCL XL issue could be the result of a corrupt user profile or insufficient printer permissions (due to a glitch) to the user. In such a case, creating a new user profile and printing through that profile may solve the problem.

  1. Create a new user account on your system and configure it to use the printer.
  2. Now try to print a document through the new user profile and hopefully, the printer is working fine.

If none of the above did the trick for you, then check if setting up the printer locally through an IP port (bypassing the print server) solves the problem. If that did not work, check if upgrading the printer RAM solves the problem.

Canon printers being in an error state is a very common problem. The error is notified to the user as a system notification or on the printer screen. The error state issue is reported on nearly all the models of the Canon printers (network or local). For some of the users, the issue started to occur after the printer cartridge or toner was replaced, while for another set of users, the error state issue occurred after the router was changed. In some cases, the problem occurred only after printing the first page of the print job while in some, it occurred out of blue. Also, some users reported that no lights on the printer were blinking when the issue started.

Canon Printer in Error State? Try These Fixes
Canon Printer in Error State Fix

A Canon printer might say it is in an error state mainly due to the following:

  • Interference from Firewall or Antivirus: If a security product of your system is hindering the printer’s driver access to an essential system resource (like print spooler), then it may cause the error state issue.
  • Corrupt or Incompatible Router Firmware: If the router’s firmware is corrupt or the router was recently changed, then the printer and system may fail to communicate with each other, resulting in the printer issue at hand.
  • Corrupt Installation of the Canon Printer Driver: If the Canon printer’s driver has become corrupt (e.g., due to a sudden power failure), then the printer might show the error state issue.
  • Hardware Issue: The issue under discussion could be a result of a hardware problem with the printer e.g. if the LAN or Wi-Fi modules of the printer have gone bad, then the printer may fail to communicate with the system and cause the error state message.

Perform a Cold Restart of the Printer, Router, and System

A temporary communication glitch between the printer and system may result in the printer error state issue. Here, performing a cold restart of the printer, router, and system may clear the glitch and thus solve the problem.

But before moving to that route, check if any lights are blinking on the printer. If so, check the Canon website to understand the lighting pattern and troubleshoot accordingly e.g., if the B and C lights on the printer are full-on but not blinking, then you may have to replace the print cartridges.

  1. Power off your system, router, and printer.
  2. Now, unplug the power cable of all the devices and disconnect all the devices from each other.
  3. Then remove the network cables from the back of the router and PC.
  4. Now wait for 5 minutes and in the meantime, check if the printer is clear of any debris or jammed paper. Also, make sure all the printer parts (including cartridges or toners) are properly connected.
  5. Afterward, connect back all the power and network cables to the devices.
  6. Then power on the router and let it stabilize.
  7. Now power on the printer and once it is properly powered on.
  8. Then power on the problematic system and once powered on, check if the printer is clear of the error state.
  9. If not, then power on the printer, and afterward, check if unplugging/plugging back the LAN cable solves the problem.
  10. If that did not work, right-click Windows and open Settings.
    Open Windows Settings
  11. Now select Devices and head to the Printers and Scanners tab.
    Open Devices in Windows Settings
  12. Then check if there is a copy of the Canon printer is shown e.g., Canon mg2500 (copy 1).
Use the Copy of the Canon Printer in Devices
  13. If so, then check if printing through that printer copy solves the problem.

If that did not work, then check if the printer can be used by directly connecting it to the problematic system by using a USB cable. If not, check if the printer works fine on another system (either through the network or USB).

Disable the Firewall/Antivirus of the System

You may encounter the error state issue on a Canon printer if the firewall/antivirus of your system is blocking access to a module essential for the printer application/driver operation. In this scenario, you can get the Canon printer out of the error state by disabling the firewall of the system.

Warning:

Proceed at your own risk as disabling the firewall of your system may expose your system, network, or data to threats.

  1. Right-click on the security software (e.g., ESET) in the system’s tray (you may have to expand hidden icons) and select Pause Protection.
Pause Protection of ESET Internet Security
  2. Then confirm to disable the protection and again, right-click on the security product.
  3. Now select Pause Firewall and then confirm to disable the system’s firewall.
Pause Eset Firewall of Your System
  4. Then make sure to disable the Windows Defender firewall as well.
  5. Now check if the Canon Printer is working fine.
  6. If not, make sure the Spooler SubSystem App is not listed as a blocked program in the security application settings (Norton is reported to block the mentioned utility). If so, then add an exception for the following path in the security software settings:
    C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe

Reset the Router to the Factory Defaults

The system might fail to query the printer if the router’s firmware is corrupt and this may lead to the error state message at hand. Also, if the router was recently changed, then the printer may fail to properly communicate with the system. In such a case, resetting the router to the factory defaults may solve the problem.

  1. Firstly, backup the essential information to set up the router later on and make sure the router is powered on.
  2. Now locate the reset button on the router, usually, at the back or bottom of the router. In some routers, the power button acts as the reset button if pressed for a longer time.
  3. Once located, press/hold the reset button by using a pointy object (like a paperclip) and wait for 30 seconds.
    Reset Your Router
  4. Then release the reset button and let the router power back on.
  5. Now configure the router as per the OEM instructions.
  6. Afterward, configure the printer and system to check if the Canon printer error state issue is resolved.

Reinstall the Canon Printer Software/Driver

If the installation of the Canon printer driver/software is corrupt, then you may encounter the error state message. In this context, reinstalling the printer application/driver may solve the problem. But before that, make sure there is no time interval set up on the system or printer (e.g., if an organization printer is configured only to print during office times).

  1. Firstly, disconnect the printer from the system (if connected through a USB).
  2. Now right-click on Windows and select Apps & Features.
  3. Then uninstall all the Canon applications (driver, Canon IJ Network Tool, etc.). Make sure to remove the MP drivers, XPS drivers, Extended Survey Program (if installed) as well.
Uninstall the Canon Applications in the Windows Settings
  4. Afterward, right-click on Windows and select Settings.
  5. Now open Devices and in the left pane, head to the Printers and Scanners tab.
  6. Then select any of the Canon printers and click on Remove Device.
Remove the Canon Printer in Printers and Scanners
  7. Now confirm to remove the printer and repeat the same for all the Canon printers.
  8. Again, right-click on Windows and select Device Manager.
  9. Now, on the menu bar, expand View and select Show Hidden Devices.
Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager
  10. Then expand Printers and right-click on the Canon printer.
  11. Now select Uninstall Device and then checkmark the option of Delete the Driver Software for This Device.
Remove the Canon Printers in the Device Manager
  12. Then, click on the Uninstall button, and once done, repeat the same for other Canon printers in the Device Manager (if present). In case, the printer also has a scanner functionality, make sure to remove it under the Imaging Devices option of the Device Manager.
  13. Now restart your system and upon restart, download the latest driver of the Canon printer from the regional Canon website.
  14. Then launch the downloaded Canon driver as administrator and follow the prompts to install the driver.
  15. Once installed, restart your system, and upon restart, check if the Canon printer’s error state issue is resolved.

Re-Add the Wi-Fi Network to the Printer

The printer in error state problem could be a result of an issue with the network type it is using e.g. if a Wi-Fi connection is being used and the printer’s Wi-Fi card (or vice versa) has gone bad, then it may result in the error at hand. Here, using the other network type may solve the problem.

Firstly, if you are using a Wi-Fi connection, then check if using a LAN connection to the printer solves the problem. If that is not an option, then you may add the Wi-Fi network to the printer as discussed below (the exact instructions might differ for some users but general guidelines will be the same). But before doing that, make sure the printer can print a test page.

  1. On the Home screen of the printer (e.g., PIXMA MG6320), swipe left and tap on the Setup icon (the wrench and screwdriver icon).
  2. Now select Device Settings and tap on LAN Settings.
Open Wireless LAN Setup of the Canon Printer
  3. Then open Wireless LAN Setup and on the To Startup Setup… window (if shown), select To Other Connection Methods (near the bottom of the screen).
  4. Now tap on Standard Setup and select your Wi-Fi connection from the list of the available networks.
  5. Then enter the Wi-Fi credentials and apply the changes.
  6. Then, on the problematic system, reinstall the driver/printer application (as discussed earlier) and hopefully, the printer would be out of the error state.

If the issue persists, then you may have to contact the regional support of Canon to solve the problem.

Error Code 0XD8077900 (KERNEL_EXEC_ST) error on HP Printers occurs when attempting to initiate a printing job on their HP Printer but the printer doesn’t respond back. This issue seems to be restricted to HP Envy, DeskJet Ink Advantage, OfficeJet, and All-in-One 5xxx models.

HP Printer Error 0XD8077900

After investigating this particular issue extensively, it turns out that there are several different underlying causes that might end up triggering this error code when initiating a printing job on an HP printer. Here’s a list of the most likely culprits:

  • IPv6 conflict – As it turns out, one of the most common situations that will cause this error is a protocol conflict caused by IPv6. Some uses dealing with the same issue have confirmed that they were able to get the issue fixed by temporarily disabling IPv6 prior to initiating a new printing job.
  • Firmware glitch – In certain scenarios, you’ll see this error when a native new HP firmware is available on your printer glitches out and refuses to take on new printer jobs. In this case, a power cycle operation should fix the issue automatically in the vast majority of cases.
  • Outdated printer firmware – If your printer refusing to take on any new printing jobs because it’s waiting to install a critical firmware update, you will have to download and install the mandatory update before it can resume the active printing jobs. You can do this manually or you can do it automatically if your HP printer supports it.
  • Underlying hardware issue – Under certain circumstances, you can expect this problem to occur due to some type of hardware problem that you cannot resolve by yourself. In this case, you should get in touch with an HP Live agent and ask for assistance in getting your printer fixed (or sending it for repairs if you’re dealing with a hardware issue)

Now that you are familiar with every potential culprit that is known to cause this issue, here’s a list of verified fixes that other affected users have successfully used to fix the 0XD8077900 error code:

1. Disable IPv6

If your printer is connected to the computer giving the printing instructions over the internet, chances are you’re seeing this error due to a network inconsistency facilitated by IPv6. This is even more likely if the computer giving the instructions is running on Windows 10.

Several affected users dealing with the same kind of issue have confirmed that they finally managed to fix the issue by accessing the Advanced Network settings related to the active home/work network and disabling IPv6.

Note: Disabling IPv6 might interfere with certain applications that run exclusively on this newer protocol, so consider only making this change temporarily (only until you manage to complete your printing queue).

If you haven’t tried resolving the 0XD8077900 error by turning off IPv6, follow the instructions below to learn how to do so:

  1. Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box. Next, type ‘ncpa.cpl’ inside the text box and press Enter to open up the Network Connections tab. If you see the UAC (User Account Control) prompt, click Yes to grant admin access.
    Opening the Network Connections tab
  2. Once you’re inside the Network Connections tab, right-click on the network that is currently active and choose Properties from the context menu.
    Accessing the Properties menu
  3. Once you’re inside the Properties menu, access the Networking tab, go under The connection uses the following items and uncheck the box associated with Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP / IPv6).

    Disabling IPv6
  4. Click Ok to save the changes, then reboot your computer and see if the printing job now completes successfully.

If you’re still seeing the same 0XD8077900 error code when you attempt to print something with your HP 5xxx model, move down to the next potential fix below.

2. Reset your printer

If you used the method above to ensure that the problem is not being caused by a badly maintained IPv6 connection, chances are this problem is occurring due to a glitch with your printer.

In this case, you should do is reset the entire printing mechanism – The procedure of doing so is pretty much universal and will be applicable to any HP printer model you might be using (LaserJet, OfficeJet, DeskJet, Envy or All-in-One).

NOTE: This operation will not expose you to the risk of damaging your printing device. It’s really the equivalent of doing a factory reset on other devices. If the problem is related to a firmware glitch, the procedure below should be able to resolve it swiftly.

Follow the instructions below to successfully reset your HP printer device:

  1. Ensure that your printer is fully turned on and in idle mode (no job currently active).
Note: If you can still hear noises coming from your printer, don’t move forward! Wait patiently until the machine becomes silent before moving down to the next step below.
  2. Once you’ve ensured that no active job is being processed, go ahead and disconnect the power code from the rear of your printer. After you do this, ensure that you’ve also removed the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Unplugging your printer
  3. After you unplug the cord, wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging the cord back in in order to ensure that the power capacitors are completely drained.
  4. Finally, reconnect the power cord, start your printer conventionally and wait for the initial internal checks to complete.
  5. Once the warm-up period is finished, initiate another printing job, and see if the problem is now fixed.

In case you are still seeing the same error code 0XD8077900 after the print job fails, move down to the next potential fix below.

3. Update HP Printer Firmware

According to some affected users, the KERNEL_EXEC_ST (0XD8077900) error can also appear due to the fact that your printer is using a deprecated firmware version that inhibits it from communicating with your Windows computer over the local network.

Fortunately, HP regularly releases new printer versions aimed at fixing these types of bugs and glitches, so chances are the fix, in this case, is as simple as installing the latest firmware version available for your particular HP printer model.

If your HP printer supports Web Services, you should be able to install the pending update directly from your printer menu:

  1. If you have a printer with the ePrint button or icon touch, press the HP ePrint icon, then access the Setup (Settings menu).
  2. Next, look for a setup entry named Product Update or Check Product Updates.

    Updating the printer

Note: If you have an HP printer with a text-based menu, access the Setup > Settings > Service. Next, access the Preferences > Printer Maintenance > Tools menu, then choose Web Services > Printer Update >  Update.

  3. If you see the Terms of Service or sign in with your account, follow the instructions and enable Web Services if required.
  4. Wait until the update procedure is complete, then reboot your printer manually and see if the 0XD8077900 error stops occurring.

If you are experiencing the KERNEL-EXEC-ST error with an older printer error, follow the instructions below to manually download & install the latest firmware update from the HP Customer support download page:

  1. First things first make sure that your printer is connected to your local network (via ethernet or USB cable).
  2. Next, open up the HP Customer Support Download Page and click on Let’s identify your product to get started.
  3. Next, click on Printer and follow the on-screen instructions to identify the latest firmware update for your printer
Accessing the Printer category on the download page

  5. Next, click on Firmware before clicking on Download.
  6. Wait for the download to finish, then open it to start the firmware updating process.
  7. Once you find yourself inside the installation window, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of the latest printer firmware.
    Downloading the latest printer firmware
  8. After the installation is complete restart both your computer and your printer, then see if the problem is resolved.

Contact HP Support

If none of the potential fixes above have worked for you, the only thing you can do at this point is to get in contact with HP support.

We found several users that went this route and reported that a tech agent successfully troubleshoots the issue for them remotely.

Important: This will only work for you as long as the issue is not hardware-related.

Note: According to other users who interacted with a live agent, HP support is fairly responsive as you can expect to reach a live agent without much trouble. They’ll offer support over the phone through a series of troubleshooting steps and if the problem still persists, you’ll be asked to send the device in for repairs.

Some Windows users attempting to print content on their HP printer are reporting that the machine suddenly becomes unresponsive to commands before finally stopping the printing job and displaying the OXC4EB827F error code.

HP Printer Error oxc4eb827f

After investigating this particular issue thoroughly, it turns out that there are several different underlying reasons that might cause your HP printer to display the OXC4EB827F error code:

  • Generic printer communication issue – If your HP printer is connected to a Windows 10 computer, you might expect to see this error due to a queue glitch. This is very common with HP and Canon printers. In this case, you should be able to fix this problem by running the Printer troubleshooter utility and applying the recommended fix.
  • Firmware glitch – This problem can also occur due to a case where the native new HP firmware is available on your printer glitches out and refuses to take on new printer jobs. In this case, a power cycle operation should fix the issue automatically in the vast majority of cases.
  • Outdated printer firmware – If your printer is waiting to install a critical firmware update, you will have to download and install the mandatory update before it can resume the active printing jobs. You can do this manually, from your printer menu using the HP Smart App or you can do it automatically if your HP printer supports it.
  • Underlying hardware issue – Under certain circumstances, this problem can be caused by some type of hardware problem that cannot be resolved by a non-technical. In this case, you should get in contact with an HP Live agent for the guidance of getting your printer fixed (or sending it for repairs if you’re dealing with a hardware issue)

Now that you are familiar with every potential reason that might spawn the OXC4EB827F error code, here’s a list of methods that other affected users have successfully used to resolve the problem and use their printer normally:

Using the Printer Troubleshooter

If you’re using Windows 10, you can use a built-in utility at your disposal that should be capable of resolving the issue automatically if the error is covered by one of the many automated repair strategies covered by the Printer Troubleshooter.

But this will only be effective if you’re not dealing with a hardware issue.

When you start the Printer Troubleshooter, the utility will start analyzing your current situation and determine if any of the repair strategies included are applicable in this situation. If one of them is a match, you will be prompted to apply the fix. If everything goes well, this will end up resolving the issue with minimal hassle.

Follow the instructions below to run the Printer Troubleshooter:

  1. Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box. Then, type” ms-settings:troubleshoot” and press Enter to open up the Troubleshoot tab of the Settings app.
    Opening the Troubleshooter tab
  2. Once you’re inside the Troubleshooting tab, move to the Get up and running tab and click on Printer. Then, from the list of available options, and click on the Run the troubleshooter button.
    Running the Printer Troubleshooter
  3. After the scanning period is complete, then click on Apply this fix if a repair strategy is recommended.
    Applying the recommended fix
  4. After the initial investigation is complete, close the troubleshooting window and see if you’re still encountering the same error message when trying to print something from your HP printer.

If the same issue is still persisting, move down to the next method below.

Power-Cycle Printer HP Printer

If the Windows troubleshooter was not able to treat the issue with your HP printer, chances are this problem is occurring due to a glitch with your printer.

In this case, before you move on to other troubleshooting guides, the first thing you should do is reset the entire printing mechanism – The procedure of doing so is pretty much universal and will be applicable to any HP printer model you might be using (LaserJet and OfficeJet).

NOTE: This operation is by no means technical and will not expose you to the risk of damaging your printing device. This is the equivalent of doing a factory reset on other devices. If the problem is related to a firmware glitch, the procedure below should resolve it swiftly.

Here’s a quick guide on power cycling your HP printer device:

  1. The first thing you should do is ensure that your printer is fully turned on and in idle mode (no job currently active). If you can still hear noises coming from your printer, don’t move forward! Instead, wait patiently until the machine becomes silent before moving down to the next step below.
  2. After you ensure that your printer is running in idle mode, go ahead and disconnect the power code from the rear of your printer. After you do this, ensure that you’ve also removed the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Unplugging your printer
  3. After you unplug the cord, wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging the cord back in in order to ensure that the power capacitors are completely drained.
  4. Next, reconnect the power cord and start your printer conventionally.
  5. Once the warm-up period is finished, initiate another printing job, and see if the problem is now fixed.

In case you are still seeing the same OXC4EB827F error, move down to the next potential fix below.

Update HP Printer Firmware

As it turns out, you can also expect to see the OXC4EB827F error if you’re using a deprecated printer version that is not able to properly communicate with a Windows 10 computer.

HP regularly releases new printer versions aimed at improving quality of life and fixing bugs and glitches. But every once in a while, they end up releasing a mandatory update that is required in order to make the printer compatible with the OS build that it’s currently connected to.

If the reason why you are seeing the OXC4EB827F error code is that you’re missing a critical update, your next step should be to update your printer firmware to the latest available.

When it comes to updating your Hewett Packard printer driver to the latest, you have 3 ways forward. Feel free to follow any of the following guides (if supported by your printer) below to bring your printer build to the latest.

A. Update directly from the printer

The instructions below will only work as long as you’re using a printer released after 2010. In order to be able to update directly from the printer, your device needs to support Web Services and have access to the Internet.

Note: The exact instructions on installing a pending firmware update on your printer will vary a little from model to model.

However, we’ve created a general guide that should make it easier for you to install the pending update:

  1. On printers with an ePrint button or icon touch or press the HP ePrint icon, then access the Setup (Settings menu). Next, look for a setup entry named Product Update or Check Product Updates.

    Updating the printer

Note: On printers with text-based menus, access the Setup / Settings / Service. Next, access the Preferences / Printer Maintenance / Tools menu, then choose Web Services / Printer Update / LaserJet Update.

  2. If you see the Terms of Service or sign in with your account, follow the instructions and enable Web Services if required.
  3. Wait until the update procedure is complete, then restart your printer manually if it doesn’t do so by itself and see if the problem is fixed at the next system startup.

B. Download newer firmware manually

If you’re using an older HP printer that doesn’t support web services, you’ll need to download & install the latest firmware update manually from the HP Customer Support download page.

Important: this is applicable on both Windows and macOS computers.

Follow the instructions below to download & install newer printer firmware manually:

  1. Make sure that your printer is connected to your local network (via ethernet or USB cable).
  2. Next, open up the HP Customer Support Download Page and click on Let’s identify your product to get started.
  3. AFter you do this, click on Printer and follow the on-screen instructions to identify the latest firmware update for your printer
    Accessing the printer category
  4. You will be prompted to type in your printer model. Do so, then click on Submit and select the operating system (Windows or macOS).
  5. The next step is to click on Firmware, then click on Download and wait for the download to finish.
  6. Once the file is finally saved on your computer, open it to start the firmware updating process.
  7. Once you’re finally inside the installation window, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of your printer’s firmware.
    Updating the printer firmware
  8. Once the installation is complete restart both your computer and your printer, then see if the problem is resolved.

If you already tried this method and you’re still seeing the same error when tying to print or you were already on the latest firmware version available, move down to the final potential fix below.

Contact HP Support

If none of the potential fixes above have worked for you, the only viable thing you can do by now is to get in contact with HP support.

We found several users that went this route and reported that a tech agent successfully troubleshoots the issue for them remotely. But this will work only if the problem is not hardware-based.

By all accounts of users who interacted with a live agent, HP support is fairly responsive as you can expect to reach a live agent without much trouble. The way it usually goes is they’ll offer support over the phone through a series of troubleshooting steps and if the problem still persists, you’ll be asked to send the device in for repairs.

Here’s a quick guide on getting in touch with an HP live agent:

  1.  Open up your default browser and visit the official support page of HP.
