Bonus: Google Lens

Platforms: Android, iOS | Price: Free | Rating: 4.4★

Google Lens has perhaps the most advanced AI image recognition technology. Therefore, you can also utilize Google Lens to easily identify bugs and insects. Most Android phones come with Lens preinstalled, and iOS users can get it through Google app. Lens’ biggest advantage is that uses the full power of Google’s extensive search library to bring up results for you.

You can scan an insect or bug in real time or upload a clear image from your gallery. Once scanned, Google Lens displays relevant information, and the whole webpage regarding the insect will be shown upon swiping up, too. It’s not as elegant a solution as the dedicated bug identifier apps, but it’s much cleaner and gets you to the point where you can search on your own.

Play Store App Store (Google)
There is no dedicated Lens app on iPhone, instead it comes built-in with the Google app. Simply download the Google app (link above), and on the main page you’ll see a camera icon in your search bar. That is Lens. Tap on that, give the relevant permissions, and you should now be able to use Lens to identify bugs. If you have Google Photos installed on your iPhone, you can also open a photo and just tap on the Lens icon in the bottom to scan that picture.

We have a dedicated guide on how to use Google Lens if you want to get a more thorough explanation.

Conclusion

There you have it, the best bug identifier apps available on the market today. There are a lot of other options that we didn’t include here, but we recommend trying out each app one by one before researching on your own. If you have any questions or suggestions, make sure to leave them down below!
